Juror’s Statement
"Thanks to the Arizona Watercolor Association for inviting me to jury their National Exhibition. It was a privilege and a pleasure. Thanks also to all the people who submitted, and last but not least, thanks to Hazel Stone without whose help, there have been no exhibition. I regret that I had to reject work. It's like insulting someone's child or worse yet, someone's grandchild. I should know. I've had enough of those little (reject) notices. I think a sentence like, "Your painting was not accepted due to space limitations," sounds kinder. I look for good design, especially clean color, color contrast, value contrast, good shapes and directions and unequal measures in all the elements of design. I chose paintings that had all of the above. Awards went to works that went beyond this in Concept, Content, Imagination, Innovation, Risk Taking and Originality. Originality sounds impossible since it seems every shape, direction, color and value has already been done. The good news, however, is that your work is still original in the way that you uniquely present it - and that's what I saw in this exhibition. I wish the Arizona Watercolor Association continued success."

"The Chandler Center for the Arts and the Chandler Cultural Foundation are pleased to host the Arizona Watercolor Association National Watercolor Exhibition 2000. In working with the AWA, we have found their work vital to the Valley's art community. Their work has exceeded the standard and helped to bridge the gap between watermedia and its admirers. The excellence of this exhibition is due to the professional abilities of AWA's members and their determination to present their medium in a professional light. All of their determination, hard work and efforts have gifted the Valley with a fantastic exhibition of top quality watercolorists from around the world. We are pleased AWA considered the Chandler Center for the Arts to display such talent."
